There are three issues concerning credit card security addressed here :
transmission of credit card details on the internet.
storage of credit card details.
misuse of credit card details.
Transmission of credit card numbers on the internet
Normally, any text ( such as your credit card number ) sent from
your browser to the web server is sent as plain text. This means that a hacker
could potentially intercept ( however unlikely ) the information sent from your
browser and read it. However we use a secure server ( SSL, Secure Socket Layer,
protocol ) for the transmission of credit card and other personal data,
therefore the information is encrypted before it is sent from your browser. It
would be practically impossible for anyone to decrypt it without knowing the key.
In practical terms this means that the transmission of credit card details
over the internet ( if the data is encrypted ) is actually safer than
transmission by mail or by phone - or even in a shop where you openly hand
over your card for processing. More important is what happens to your credit
card information once it is received.
Storage of credit card details
The next danger with providing an internet merchant with your
credit card details is whether or not they keep them safe. If they leave the
details on their server, then there is always a risk that a hacker might be
able to gain access to them. For this reason we store your card details at a
separate secure location, with restricted access. The confidentiality and
security of your data is a top priority for us. We want to maintain your
loyalty and goodwill as a client so it is essential that we do so.
Misuse of credit card details
Well there's no point denying that there are some shady operators out there
and it does happen. They take your credit card details and then keep charging
for services that have never been provided. There has to be a high level of
mutual trust when doing business on the internet - we can only state that we
operate in good faith and hope that our track record speaks for itself.
It is good practice to check the company you have ordered from actually exists.
This is no different from reading a newspaper advertisement, and sending money to a
PO Box number. On the Internet, it is very easy to cross-check with other sources.
For example, use our Telecom phone listing to check we exist.
If you are concerned, you may fax/phone your order to us.
